Cleaning Carpet Mildew
New Technology Has Been Discovered
When it comes to cleaning carpet mildew, it is a very tricky subject. As a professional carpet cleaner with many years of experience, my first recommendation for dealing with a mildew-ridden carpet is to have it replaced. Mold and mildew spores are airborne and can therefore re-settle onto a carpet almost immediately after cleaning. That's why do-it-yourself methods of cleaning carpet mildew rarely work in the long-term. But if you are dead set against replacing your carpet, your best hope for mold and mildew remediation is to hire a professional carpet cleaner.
The number one rule for keeping any carpet clean is to focus on prevention. Just as you don't want to wait until a carpet is visibly dirty before you vacuum it, you also don't want to wait until you see mold and mildew before you treat it. Regularly using fans, dehumidifiers and air conditioning can decrease the level of moisture in the air (especially in humid environments) and help prevent mold and mildew from infecting your carpet.
If I could share only one important carpet cleaning secret with the public it would be this: don't wait until your carpet looks dirty before you get it cleaned. A carpet that is visibly dirty is actually pretty filthy, and that means you've been living with all kinds of dirt, allergens, bacteria, and fungus for quite a while. Thoroughly vacuum your carpet at least once a week, and schedule a professional cleaning about once a year, no matter what your carpet looks like on the surface.
The traditional home remedy for cleaning carpet mildew is a chlorine solution that vaporizes mold and mildew on contact. The problem with this solution is that it can cause damage to many household surfaces such as metals, polished marble and wood. Another more serious issue with chlorine solutions is that as they evaporate they release dangerous chlorine gas into the air. People with asthma and other respiratory should never use such solutions.
Luckily new technology has been discovered that allows professional carpet cleaners to remove mold and mildew without chlorine products. To find a carpet cleaning company in your area...Check out
